Wild rally from 3-0 deficit before falling to Penguins, 4-3

PITTSBURGH — It was like old times Monday night at the Penguins’ ice arena. Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby scored goals, and the crowd was cheering for Marc-Andre Fleury.Only Fleury wasn’t playing for the Penguins, or even on the ice.The Wild rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie the game early in the third period, but two Penguins power-play goals were the difference as Pittsburgh beat the Wild, 4-3, at PPG Paints Arena. The loss ended the Wild’s three-game winning streak.Ryan Hartman, Jake Middleton and Vinni Lettieri scored goals for Minnesota, changing the narrative late in a game that had been dominated by the Penguins — and their fans’ disquiet over Wild coach John Hynes’ decision to start Filip Gustavsson in goal rather than Fleury, the future hall of famer who won three Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh and might have been here with pads on for the last time on Monday.Gustavsson finished with 26 saves as the Wild dropped the first game on a two-game trip that continues Tue...

Bernie Sanders to Force Vote on Israeli War Crimes. . . ISI Document Blows Up Pakistan's Case Against Imran Khan

This article was originally published as a newsletter from Ryan Grim. Sign up to get the next one in your inbox. At the end of November, my colleague Dan Boguslaw caught up with Bernie Sanders on his way into a meeting with Democrats in the Capitol, and had a chance for a brief interview. He asked Sanders if he had any plans to force a vote that would condition military aid to Israel on the country’s willingness to abide by international laws of war. Sanders responded in the affirmative. I covered the exchange the next day on Counter Points, and added that there actually is an obscure procedural tool Sanders could use to force a vote. It’s outlined in Section 502(b) of the Foreign Assistance Act, and it’s never been used in this way, but the law is extremely clear. Two weeks later, Sanders has now introduced a resolution to force a vote using 502(b). It has to sit in the Foreign Relations Committee for 10 days before it can be brought to the floor, which means it’ll be ripe in the Ne...

MADRID (AP) — Girona returned to the top of the Spanish league after a comprehensive 3-0 win over mid-table Alaves on Monday. The result lifted Girona two points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga and nine clear of third-place Barcelona.Striker Artem Dovbyk scored two goals and winger Yan Bueno Cuoto dazzled on the right wing as Girona was far superior.Alaves has gone 24 matches away from home without a win, the worst such run in the club’s history. The surprise title contender took the lead midway through the first half when Dovbyk was on hand to nod home a rebound after Antonio Sivera could only parry Cuoto’s shot.Cuoto was involved again four minutes before halftime when the tricky winger fed Portu, who spun and rifled in a low shot. With an hour gone, Dovbyk made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Cuoto was brought down in the box. It was the Ukrainian striker’s 10th goal in 16 games. Only Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has scored more.Alaves was 13th place in La Liga, three...
