Logwood pleads no contest to reduced charges for Oakland slaying

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:46:48 GMT

(KRON) -- Delonzo Logwood entered a plea in Alameda County Superior Court Thursday for the death of Eric Ford. According to prosecutors, he pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter, and will face up to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced in July. Logwood's plea is the latest chapter in a criminal justice saga that began in 2015. Then-Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley charged Logwood with murdering Eric Ford, Richard Carter, and Zaire Washington. The three victims were shot to death in separate Oakland shootings in 2008. O'Malley added special enhancements to the charges because the killings allegedly involved street gangs. If Logwood had been found guilty of the murder charges, he would have faced life prison sentences. But the case never went to trial. Instead, 32-year-old Logwood has been locked in Santa Rita Jail for eights years with his case in limbo. Ex-cop faces assault charge for punching woman in face The thieves can be seen on multiple security cameras attempting to open vehicle doors. If a door is locked, they immediately move on. If a car is found to be open, they appear to rummage through the inside.“It’s not uncommon for criminals to go, and whether they’re driving down the street or walking down the street, to lift the door handles, and they are looking for vehicles that are unlocked,” public information officer Josh Hans said. However, Hans said it is unusual for those criminals to be carrying visible firearms.“What makes these guys so dangerous, put us on such high alert here, is it’s very rare that you see suspects engaged i...

BYERS, Colo. (KDVR) — Just north of the Adams County town of Byers, County Road 2 looked more like a river Thursday.Huge portions of the road had been washed out after unprecedented rain in the county."I haven't seen anything like this," public works manager Matt Fightmaster said. "This has been the longest, wettest spring that I've seen in the 20 years in this industry that I've been doing it."Fightmaster's crews have been working around the clock trying to prioritize damage across the region, with multiple closures now in place. He said the continuous rain has made it difficult to assess or repair some of the damage."If we can’t get it to dry out, then it just delays that process sometimes," he said. "Until we can get to the bottom of that water and inspect it, it’s tough to tell, but there usually is a decent amount of damage there." Officer hurt after being hit by parade truck He said it's far too early to know how much the repairs will cost the county, considering new da...

No more climate consensus as politics of net zero heats up in Britain

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:46:48 GMT

LONDON — The U.K.’s net zero debate is starting to boil over. With a little more than a year to go until the likely date of a general election, the government and opposition are trading blows over energy policy. As the rhetoric ratchets up, both sides accuse the other of pushing policies that leave Britain vulnerable to Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Whereas for a time there was broad political consensus about climate, particularly under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, an enthusiastic advocate for net zero, in recent weeks political fault lines over green policies have reopened, thrusting the issue back up the agenda ahead of a likely election next year. The opposition Labour Party — currently well ahead in the polls — has started to lay out its policy stall, committing to ban new oil and gas developments in the North Sea and reaffirming plans to follow Joe Biden’s example by putting big state fiscal firepower behind the green transition.  The proposals are the only ...

‘Elemental’ a delightfully odd Disney/Pixar treat

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:46:48 GMT

Wonderfully weird, Pixar’s animated “Elemental” is a gift from the Magic Kingdom as it presents an astounding world where the citizens are one of the four elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air.“Elemental” is about the rocky courtship that asks: Can a Water person find happiness – and continued life – with a Fire person?Specifically, can sweet-natured inspector Wade Ripple (voiced by Mamoudou Athie) find a soul mate and life partner with explosive, short-tempered Ember Lumens (Leah Lewis)? After all, these are two worlds that rarely meet much less become coupled. Can they touch?  Will Ember boil Wade?  On his part, he can easily extinguish her flame. While Earth and Air are reduced to bit parts without much interest, “Elemental” has other things in mind beyond its Romeo and Juliet warring families set-up.There is a vivid contrast between what would be the upper middle class of Water world where families live in plush high rises and nearly constantly break into (comical) gushes of tears.The...
