The series is tied 1-1 after Seattle earned an unexpected split in Denver against the defending Stanley Cup champions. Seattle took a 3-1 win in Game 1 and had an early two-goal lead in Game 2 before watching the Avalanche rally for a 3-2 victory to knot the series. “I hope our fans are fired up for it because we will be,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. Those who do fill Seattle’s home building on Saturday night will be getting rewarded with the next chapter in the cit...

Frog fair draws environmentalists’ fury in France

French people love to eat frogs — or so the stereotype goes. But one fair in the city of Vittel in eastern France has gone too far, environmentalists warn, with visitors being slated to consume some 7 metric tons of frog legs over one single weekend. The cause for concerns centers around how most of the frogs the thousands of visitors get to taste are imported from easterly locales, environmentalists said.“For this event alone, up to 350,000 frogs are caught, especially in Indonesia and Turkey, where frog populations are already in alarming decline,” Charlotte Nithart, of French nongovernmental organization Robin des Bois, said in a statement. “In the EU, such a nature looting coupled with such cruel killing methods would not be allowed, so the logical consequence must be to stop imports.”Sandra Altherr from the German group Pro Wildlife said in the same statement that it was an unnecessary practice. “Do the visitors know that for their snacks, frogs are amputated alive on the...

What a difference a year makes.Last year, Gang Green selected three impactful players — Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson — in the first round of the NFL Draft. The Jets also selected dynamic running back Breece Hall in the second round and he looked to be the favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year before tearing his ACL in October.A year later, a cloud continues to surround the Jets. More than a month after Aaron Rodgers announced his intentions to play for the Jets on “The Pat McAfee Show,” there continues to be a standoff between the Jets and the Packers on trade compensation leading up to the draft. Reportedly, Green Bay wants an unconditional first-round pick for Rodgers, while Gang Green has been reluctant to part with a first-rounder.Although a trade for Rodgers could be reached during the first or second round of next week’s draft, the Jets aren’t expected to part ways with the No. 13 overall ...
