Onyx for the Whisky: Queens hardcore hip-hop group often perform at the Whisky when they hit L.A., which is cool but not the standard rap venue.  No matter — Onyx have been around since 1988, and putting out albums since 1993’s Bacdafucup. The latest is this year’s Blood on da X. “The bad boys of ’90s hip hop return with a vicious new studio album of real deal street rap,” says label Cleopatra Record. Sounds about right. Blaxmyth, iLLijah Moon, D.I.O., Lyrics, T Rich$ and Morgainz also play.According to their Wiki bio, “They are best known for their 1993 platinum hit single ‘Slam,’ which The Source magazine described as a song that introduced the art of slam dancing into hip-hop. Their debut album, Bacdafucup, has been certified platinum, won Best Rap Album at the Soul Train Music Awards and was selected as one of The Source magazine’s 100 Best Ra...

Quick Cook: Make this Alphabet Soup for All Ages

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:41:21 GMT

This is the most requested soup across all three generations in my family, because it has something for everyone — nostalgia for the grandparents, kale and hearty vegetables for the parents and, for the kids, letter-shaped pasta. It’s a forgiving recipe, subject to the whims of toddler food preferences, refrigerator contents and seasonal availability. But what makes or breaks this recipe (beyond the obvious requisite that it be salted enough … please, PLEASE season your soup!) is the quality of the pasta and its preparation.I will only endeavor to make a pot of this soup, if I have a package of Eduardo’s Alfabeto pasta (made by Dolce Italia Foods), because the letters are actually big enough to identify in your mouth or, let’s be honest, splattered into sentences by first graders across the dinner table. Be sure to cook the pasta al dente in salted water and keep it separate from the soup until it’s time to eat. Just ladle the soup over individual portions of the alphabet pasta so th...

How the Warriors can advance in the in-season tournament with a win against Sacramento

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:41:21 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — Despite a six-game losing streak, suspensions and disarray, the Warriors have a chance to win their in-season tournament group and advance to the quarterfinal. The odds aren’t that bad, but they have to win the final group-play game. If they beat the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier that day, the Warriors win their Group C. If Minnesota beats Oklahoma City, the Warriors will have to beat the Kings by a substantial point differential to win a three-way tiebreaker over Sacramento and Minnesota, as all three would be 3-1 in group play.“It’ll be fun. A lot of fun. It’ll be a lot like Game 7, the atmosphere, the excitement, the angst,” said Draymond Green, who returns from his five-game suspension for Tuesday’s game. “The feeling I’m expecting is that i’ll feel like a Game 7.”Heading into Tuesday’s games, the Warriors have a plus-5 point ...

Pac-12 bowl projections: CFP bid seems likely as UW, Oregon collide, but New Year’s Six berths await both

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:41:21 GMT

Helpful reminders on the postseason selection process before we plunge into the latest Pac-12 bowl forecast:— The Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl will host the College Football Playoff semifinals, leaving the Pac-12 champion to participate in the Fiesta, Peach or Cotton bowls unless it qualifies for the CFP.— The Pac-12 is contractually tied to seven games this season: the New Year’s Six, Alamo, Las Vegas, Holiday, Sun, LA and Independence bowls. If there are more eligible teams than available spots, the conference will attempt to secure invitations to other bowls with vacancies.Victories by Washington and Oregon last weekend didn’t secure a College Football Playoff berth for the Pac-12. The  conference could end up on the outside of the four-team event once again. But the undefeated Huskies and one-loss Ducks have seemingly clinched spots in the New Year’s Six — and the cash windfall that comes with it — regardless of the outcome of the conference title game Friday ...

Elon Musk’s Cybertruck is already a production nightmare for Tesla

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:41:21 GMT

By Dana Hull | BloombergThe Cybertruck hasn’t even hit the market yet, and Elon Musk already is lamenting that Tesla Inc. has dug its own grave. Its stainless steel body may be able to withstand bullets and arrows, but it’s going to be a bear putting the panels together. It will be Tesla’s first high-voltage vehicle, offering the benefit of faster charging, but also potential pitfalls. And it will be Tesla’s only product dependent on in-house battery cells that are years behind schedule. In these respects and others, the Cybertruck will be a big step backward from how Tesla has progressed in its approach to carmaking. The last vehicle Musk spoke about the way he’s described the Cybertruck was the Model X, the sport utility vehicle that’s never reached high volumes because of what its chief executive officer described on several occasions as hubris.“Model X became kind of like a technology bandwagon of every cool thing we could imagine all at once,” Musk said of the SUV in May 2017. “T...
